Washington DC Snow Pictures

One of my affiliates in DC (from work) took some photos of the snowstorm from a couple of days ago. Pretty amazing, don't you think??? I'm jealous. I'm praying for another Corpus Christmas miracle... :-) Yeah, I wish!!

My Tree

I made it halfway through putting up my tree and decided WHY??? It had been sitting that way for over a week. I'm taking it down... I know, I'm a grinch. So instead, I've decided to put a tree up on my blog...so there you go.

Work has been really busy lately and I've had no energy at the end of the day to decorate or shop or do any of the other Christmas stuff that I need to do. Now I'm having to bust my rump getting it all done.... oh well....

Luckily, I have 12 days, starting Christmas Eve, away from work. I'm super-duper excited. Can't wait to see "most" of you in Corpus!! Love you all!!

Our Little Snowfall

Today's Forcast: Maybe a little snow mixed in with rain in our western and northern counties....What actually happened: A pretty good snowfall in the entire DFW area. Just a light dusting in the grass due to the ground being too hot still.

Friday's forcast is: A very good chance of snow.... Translation: We'll receive no snow AT ALL on Friday.

Whatever the weather people say, just believe the opposite :-)

The snow was beautiful this morning - unfortunately it's over now - but I'm truly grateful for the amount that I did get to see. Big huge flakes, very nice!!!

My Weekend Job

After seeing this photo, do I really have to say more?

My yard is probably about 85% full of leaves. It looks like a blanket. So yes, as much as I hate it, I'll be blowing, raking and shoving leaves in bags this weekend. It's supposed to rain on Sunday and I sure want them picked up before that. Unforunately, there's still about 1/4 of the leaves left on my trees.....This is definitely the time of the year I wish I had a husband...or should I say, a "leaves picker-upper".... :-) Have pity on me....

'Graceling' & 'Fire' by Kristen Cashore

Okay, more book stuff - surprised? Yeah, we all know you're not.

Believe it or not, I actually bought these books based solely on the covers (and they say you can't judge a book by it's cover ~ yeah right) These books are awesome! They're kind of "Robin Hood-ish" or "Princess Bride-ish", at least they're set in type of time period.

For some reason they felt different to me than all the other books I've been reading lately. More like a fairy tale. I felt like I was actually reading a "story", if that makes any sense, instead of just peeking in and spying on someone's life.

There's everything one could want in these books: war, fighting, monsters, secrets, journeys, kingdoms, royalty, people with weird powers and of course, love (and sex ~ though it's not bad at all). I highly recommend these books!! And of course, they'll look pretty in your bookshelf :-)

Graceling is the first book that Kristen wrote, here's the pretty cover... with an additional cover that I didn't see in the stores, but it's cool!

Fire is the second book Kristen wrote, but it's actually a prequel to Graceling. There is only one character that's in both books, so the stories are actually about different people. They say you can read Fire first, but I don't think so. After reading them both, I think it's better to read Graceling first. Like I said, I highly recommend these if you like love and adventure .... and who doesn't, right?

**I actually have the end of Fire to finish tonight ~ I'm so excited!!!

Here's the Fire cover, along with the other cover I didn't see in the stores....hmmmm, maybe they're fan-made, who knows?

My Maze Runner Review (Well, sort of)

Yes, I really liked The Maze Runner. It's definitely more of a "guy's" book ~ not much lovin' going on. It had me wondering exactly what was going on the entire time. There are some "gross out" moments, but nothing that really bothered me (though they may bother Patty since she thought The Hunger Games was gross.) I wouldn't say that I "just couldn't put it down", because I did at first. But towards the end, I started shoveling it in like I'd never read another book again. Oh, and it's a series....so hopefully the author will get the second book out soon!

Happy Halloween!

Sounds good to me!!!

The Maze Runner

The other day when I was in Borders, the clerk told me about "The Maze Runner". She said it was somewhat similiar to The Hunger Games.

So....here I go again. I'm buying it today, with my 40% off coupon I might add, and I'll let you know if it's worth the read.

To Halloween Party Or Not?

I know this is probably a stupid post, and I know what you're all going to say, but it's always good to have encouragement!

I'm "thinking" about going to a Single's Halloween party on Saturday. (The last time I hung out with these people was two years ago on Halloween, how funny!)

I know you're all thinking, "Well go, dummy", and yes, I want to, but..........

I'm 41, I'm not a 25ish-year old who just wants to party all the time. My friends from high school have children in college and on missions. I'm just over my partying days. I just want to stay home and read a book (like I'm telling you something you don't already know). But......

I guess I just need encouragement. It's so hard to kick my butt out of my cozy little home to go out and deal with all the crap of "trying" to make a better and happier (although not all the time, I realize) home. But as they say: nothing ventured, nothing gained, right? ....But oh, it's just so warm and safe in my own little corner....

Tara!

You have the correct answer to the bus question. But why? If you can come up with the same answer the pre-schoolers gave, you'll win a copy of Evermore!!!!

New Series to Read!!! :-)

I'm now into a new series, thanks to Rhiannon.......(I'm so addicted to reading, jeez.)

Anyway, it's "The Immortals" series by Alyson Noel. The first book reminds me a lot of Twilight, but by the time I read the second book, I wasn't even thinking about Twilight. It's a girly kind of book, love and all that good stuff. I don't really recommend it for men, but definitely all you ladies out there would really like it.

The first book is:

Evermore
-----------------------------------------------------

The second is:
Blue Moon ~ yes, I thought that was kind of weird, too, but it actually does have a meaning.

-----------------------------------------------------

The third book, which comes out around Thanksgiving and I CAN'T WAIT, is:

Shadowland

-----------------------------------------------------
I recommend you read them, especially Tara, Holly & Julie ~ they seem right up your alley!

These are Cool!

...but I picture them a little older. I know they're only 16, but in Catching Fire, they're 17... that's older.
The picture on my sidebar of them kissing is a little more along the lines of how I picture them, especially Peeta.
